Intentional Inclusivity
In September 2022, the CMTBC made a pledge to address the intergenerational trauma of Indigenous people. On April 6, 2023, the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia (CMTBC), began recruiting registrants to join the Cultural Safety, Humility and Anti-racism Standard Advisory Group.
While professional ethics is a foundation of massage therapy education, it is the intentional turn towards inclusity and addition of Indigenous concerns in the framework of the regulatory college of massage therapists in BC that should be hailed as a progressive and essential step.
During a massage session transferance, which is when the state of the therapist affect the client or vice versa, may occur. Because of this intimate environment, it is important for massage therapists to be aware of their own biases and to work towards an open an inclusive mindset. This is an ongoing journey and one that is supported by our regulatory body.
